Sculpting Wood the Expedited Way

I come from a family of artists.  My mother is a pianist, my sister a painter and my father a sculptor.  Art is something that sustains us financially, emotionally and spiritually.

Although many of us perceive art is something that is graceful as opposed to mechanical and rigid, I noticed some of the sculptures in some local arts and crafts shops that are so amazing and these sculptures as I learned later were mass produced.

I asked the storekeeper who makes the sculptures and I was told that they have a factory nearby.  I hurriedly went to the factory to see how they do them.

As I saw, they have automatic lathe machines to aid in fast sculpting.  They would just have a piece of wood rotate on the lathe and they get different kinds of very sharp chisel run across the wood and voila, they have a work of art!  Several lathe machine attachments were interchanged for variety of sculpture outputs.

I realized that art is more of an expression of the soul no matter what kind of advanced technology is being used to aid in making the art work.  And with automatic lathes easily available nowadays, I feel happy realizing that beautiful sculptures can be mass produced very quickly!
