A Bed to Make Them Go Outside

Sometimes all you want to do with a gift is motivate your kids to go outside. A lot of parents buy the toy to make them do that – for example, some parents will buy a baseball with the hopes the kid will go outside and start to play catch.

With kids, however, the key is often subtlety. The baseball may be played with for a day or two, but if the child does not feel motivated to go outside, they probably will stop playing with it and the gift will end up in a closet.

The key to getting your child outside is to subtly motivate them to go outside. Consider bedding as an example of how to do this. Want your young boy to go outside? Buy him Motocross Bedding or Skateboard Bedding so that he sees reminders of hobbies he can take up if he simply steps foot out the door. Have a little girl? Get her horse bedding to remind her of animals that she can see or ride if she gets out of her bed. It may seem ridiculous, but these are the types of motivations you need to do if you want to convince your child that the world is an exciting place outside of the home.

A Good Dentist is Like a Fine Wine. Maybe.

A good Washington DC dentist is like finding a fine wine that doesn’t stain your teeth. It tastes delicious, and when you’re done you look great.

I don’t know if that saying actually works. What I do know is that I’m fairly pleased with my new dentist. The guy really knows what he’s doing and is definitely able to bring me some quality service and satisfaction.

After my last Washington DC dental braces I became slightly afraid of the dentist for a while because I didn’t want to experience that again. But Washington DC cosmetic dentistry has come a long way in recent years, and I’m proud to report that I feel no fear when going to the dentist’s office. In fact, I look forward to it, because quite frankly I am just not a big fan of that gunk feeling on the front of your teeth after you haven’t brushed for a while. It’s unattractive and tastes kind of weird. Plus it always feels like I have bad breath. Not pleasant at all.

So going to the dentist has become almost a treat in some ways, as I am finally able to get my teeth cleaned fear free and can proudly go into the world smiling large.

First Day On The Job

I always liked the excitement and anticipation of getting hired for a new job … and I always hated that first day on the job. I have never really done well with things that I wasn’t familiar with. I like already knowing what I’m doing so that I can feel confident in my abilities. And of course, you never know what you are doing at a new place on the first day of a new job.

I used to just try to fake it a lot. I remember one time when a new boss asked me to head over to the local office supply store to research the prices of guillotine cutters. (This was back in the days before you could just do that type of research on the Internet.) I had no idea what a guillotine cutter was but I figured that I’d figure it out when I got there.

I wandered the aisles for nearly an hour passing through rotary paper trimmers and commercial shredders and all sorts of equipment that I’d never seen before. Finally, I had to ask for help. It turns out that guillotine cutters are just paper cutters (the manual kind as opposed to electric paper cutters). Who knew?

When I got back to the office, the boss asked what had taken so long. Did I fess up? Of course not. I pretended that I knew exactly what I was doing until I had the hang of the job down pat!

Careers in Crowd Control

We live in a society that socializes together which means that there are many different times when there are large crowds in a small area. This means that there is often the need for crowd control. And where there is a need for a service, there is the possibility of launching a career.

Here are some of the jobs that you could get if you were interested in working in the area of crowd control:

  • Security. The most obvious job for controlling crowds is to become a security person working at events.
  • Event set-up. When a large event is going to be held, crowd control barriers are typically set up. You can get a job being the set-up person.
  • Equipment retailer. Someone has to sell or rent the crowd control equipment that is being used at events. You could launch a small business doing exactly that.
  • Group psychology expert. There are psychological techniques that can be used to control crowds. You can get a PhD in group psychology and specialize in researching and writing on this topic.

Jobs in crowd control have been around for a long time but they are only just starting to get the recognition that they deserve as important jobs in society today.

Organizing Your Car or Truck with Kids

Anyone who has kids — or, heck, even knows anyone who has kids — knows what a disaster area your car can become.  Toys, snacks, etc. congregate on your floorboards and in the crevices in the seats.  Your trunk gets filled with strollers, diaper bags, and other types of equipment.  Your console and door pockets become stuffed with all that emergency stuff that you keep on hand because you just might need it someday (i.e. individually wrapped plastic spoons, napkins and tissues, kid-friendly snacks, etc.).

Thankfully there are ways to kid-proof your car so that it doesn’t get so trashed.  Here are a couple of suggestions:

  • Buy a catch all.  Catch alls are useful organizers that go inbetween the bucket seats in the front of a truck, SUV, or minivan.  This is a great place to put drinks, sippy cups, and random things such as little toys and travel games, hair ties and barrettes, and tissues.
  • Use a jobox.  By creating locking storage space in the bed of your truck, you are freeing up a lot of limited space in the cab.  This helps keep the clutter to a minimum.
  • Look into dog boxes for Fido.  Everyone loves the family dog, but boy do they mess up the inside of your truck!  Plus, if you are carrying the dog around, where do you put the kid?  Locking, vented dog boxes give you a way to carry your dog in the back of the truck without worrying about him jumping or falling out, getting stolen, or making a mess inside the truck!

Having kids doesn’t have to mean your car should be a disaster area.  Take advantage of the auto accessories on the market, and you can easily keep your car organized, even with kids!
