With the development of the internet, what is said is forever embedded online. No longer can you expect reputation problems to go away with time. In the past you could simply wait until nobody was talking about you in the newspapers anymore and the story would eventually fade. Due to the increasing capabilities of search engines, what is said about you online today is basically permanent. This has spawned an entire industry based on online reputation management. Companies of all sizes now have to monitor what is being said about them if they are concerned about the future of their brands.
