From One Business Owner To Another

I’m writing to extend some advice to large companies out there who intake a lot of sales.  We sell computer parts and, with most the world going online these days, demand for our product has increased rapidly.  Our inside sales team became overrun with customer calls so I decided to get some outside help.  I turned to sales outsourcing to take care of our customers directly.  With another group of people taking in sales over the phone, my employees were able to focus on other duties and work more efficiently overall.  I would recommend to any expanding business to take advantage of sales outsourcing

There are, of course, always risks when placing a portion of your company into someone else’s hands.  That’s why I also recruited a telesales consulting team to oversee the quality of customer service being provided.  At the end of each three-month period, I would receive employee reviews for each new worker to ensure they were treating customers with the same courtesy my employees would extend.

In order to get in touch with a sales outsourcing company, you can find many resources online.  I believe it is in the best interest of any growing company to use outsourcing as a way to make the company run more efficiently.

How to Survive a Recession

The key to surviving a recession is working in a job where you have a reasonable amount of job security — that is, a job that won’tbe laying off people even if the recession gets worse.

Certain jobs are more likely to survive a recession than others.  For example, people in the financial sector are highly vulnerable to layoffs right now, since that is where the root of the problem lies.  As the stock market tanks and banks go under, the entire financial industry is going to feel the ripples, and many people are going to lose their jobs as companies downsize.

Recession-proof jobs are the ones that maintain the same level (or close to the same level) of demand, regardless of what happens in the financial industry.  For example, hospitals and health care centers are not going to lose patients because the stock market crashes — they might find themselves suddenly overwhelmed with unemployed, uninsured patients, but realistically that creates a need for more staff (to process all of their requests for assistance), not less.

Also, right now the Baby Boomers are aging, and as they get older there will not be enough hospitals and nursing homes to house them.  Home care will most likely continue to be popular, despite what the financial industry does.

Therefore, I would expect jobs in health care to remain pretty stable.  You can get home care provider training, get your nurse’s certification, or attend other caregiver training programsCompanion homemaker training or an education in another relatively stable field may well protect you from the worst of the recession, by keeping you employed and your job skills in demand.

A Wildlife Viewer for My Home

In this age of nanny cams, I think it would be neat to have a way to watch to see what kind of wildlife approaches my home.  We see deer all the time, but twice now we’ve also seen a bear.

I want to mount some sort of home security surveillance camera so I can see exactly what these bears do when we’re not home!  What’s more, I kind of want to see if we ever get a mountain lion around.  This would be scary because I not only have a toddler, but I have two dogs that are in our backyard all day.

I guess we’d have to mount some sort of wireless hidden camera out away from our house to shoot at the house itself.  And I think the insurance company would actually like it to have a kind of spycam outside our home.  But I really regret that we miss a lot of wildlife because our dogs bark like crazy whenever anything even comes near.

I’m also very curious about the pack of coyotes that comes around every so often in the middle of the night in our little community of Larkspur.  They just scream and yip outside our fence.  At these times, our dogs are deadly silent.  What are they trying to do?  They scare me.

My Sister’s Best Friend’s Wedding

My sister’s best friend got married in Hawaii in the summer of 2007, and my sister was one of her bridesmaids.  While it turned out to be an expensive venture for my sister — paying for a Hawaii vacation, as well as her bridesmaid outfit — she enjoyed it all quite a bit.

One thing she decided to do was to stay in Hawaii for a week or so after the wedding was over.  After all, she figured, if she was going to be paying for the flight over there she might as well enjoy it and turn it into a vacation for herself.  So when she and the rest of the bridal party were looking at Hawaii hotels, she made sure she booked her room for extra time.

Of course, as happens with many weddings some things went badly, which was disappointing for my sister.  However, I think she had a lot of fun in Hawaii.  Yet another thing she’s done that I haven’t!  I guess I’ll have to look into a Maui vacation sooner or later — not that my sister and I are extremely competitive, but now that she’s been to Hawaii and has all her stories to share, I am starting to want to go, too!
