Important Tools in Medicine

There are so many facets of medicine and technology and I think we often forget how conveniently available many things have become.  I was reading an article about how important inline flow meters have become in medicine and I realized it was something I had never even thought about.  Yet if I were to become ill I would surely take advantage of these advancements and probably never notice.  Whether it’s the operating room or a patient’s private room there is some kind of non-invasive measuring instrument.

If you consider how pharmaceuticals are manufactured it would be nearly impossible to consistently regulate and measure most liquids used in medicine if not for flow measurement.  It is this process that allows liquids to remain ultra-pure and sterile as well as maintain its required temperature.  In addition, hospitals measure the oxygen with mass air flow sensors which effectively regulate and dispense the oxygen to the patients.

It’s interesting how these advances in measurement have made such an impact in so many industries and yet it’s easy to take for granted how much is being taken care of behind the scenes.  I know the next time I visit someone in the hospital I will look at the equipment with a totally different appreciation.

Modern Magnetic Therapy

Over the last century, engineers and scientists have developed magnets out of various materials which produce a much stronger magnetic effect than those made of steel. Today, many magnets are made of ferrite (ceramic) and neodymium-iron-boron - which is 100 times stronger than steel. These advancements have also brought about resurgence in the popularity of magnetic therapy for pain, particularly in North America, where the magnetic therapy industry boasts annual sales of $300 million in the U.S. alone.

Magnetic therapy devices come in such forms as magnetic bands, patches, cushions and jewelry. They are placed over the joints and muscles to achieve everything from back pain relief to carpal tunnel treatment. There are also several organizations and institutions dedicated to the study of magnetic therapy, such as the Bio-Electro-Magnetics Institute, and the North American Academy of Magnetic Therapy.

Professional athletes, such as tennis players and golfers have also begun to use magnetic therapy for pain. Products such as magnetic back pads, bracelets and cushions can often be found in professional sports stores.

In addition to humans, magnetic therapy has also been used on animals such as

racehorses and even llamas. Custom-made pads and cushions have been specially suited to fit the animals and provide therapy for their joint and muscle pain.

Set the Mood with Candles

Americans seem to be passionate about fragrances and most consumers’ first choice of fragrance for the home is scented candles. There are a variety of ways to set the mood with candles. In the kitchen a popular choice is vanilla, along with cinnamon, mocha, gingerbread, apple pie, pumpkin, hazelnut, and brown sugar. The second popular group of scents is a fruity fragrance which includes citrus, apple, black cherry, wild berry, and peach. Next is the floral group with emphasis on rose, lavender, lilac gardenia, and jasmine. The category featuring relaxation and mood are ginger, eucalyptus, mint, sandalwood, and green tea. Fantasy category includes such as rain, ocean breeze, cotton, etc.

Candles add style, ambiance, and warmth to the home. Decorate by placing pillar candles in glass containers on an end table or coffee table and also a pair on the mantel.  In the summertime fill your fireplace with scented soy candles for a dramatic backdrop. Your patio or garden area can be most enchanted with a shimmering candlelit grouping. And let’s not forget the bathroom by using aromatherapy soy candles on the counters and even on the tub. By trying out different scents and styles of candles you certainly will have set the mood for good living!

Is it Time to get Certified?

After many years in the same security position, you decide that you would like to advance your career.  You hold a BA, and have plenty of experience, but you lack professional certification.  You need to take the CISSP exam.  The problem is that you deal with real world situations, and not textbooks.  You need additional training to ace the exam.  It’s time to contact a security training company to setup training for the CISSP

CISSP stands for Certification for Information System Security Professional and refers to CISSP training typically.  The exam is 250 multiple choice questions and covers 10 Common Bodies of Knowledge, also known as the CBK.  Companies offer several types of training towards the CISSP.  First, they offer a mullet-day course that encompasses all 10 CBK’s.   At the end, students are given extensive review materials to help them prepare for the exam.

The next option for students is an online or computer based component.  Students are given over 30 hours of material on both DVD and mp3 that covers all the materials that are covered in the 6 day class, but these materials are available for review at any time.   The last option is specialized training.  These companies will send one of their instructors to your business to conduct the CISSP training course, allowing your workers flexibility in the event an emergency arises.

If you need training toward s the CISSP, consider a qualified security training company.  They offer a wide array of thorough training that can meet anyone’s schedule.  Good luck to you as you try and obtain the CISSP.
